Blueberry & Black Garlic BBQ Sauce!

So, I guess I will make this a little series since I am on a roll with making some homemade sauces with the black garlic I got at Costco. This is another winner in my book and it works well with pulled pork, ribs, or even chicken! It is currently blueberry season here in Central Florida and I had about five pounds of them in the fridge, so this sounded like a good idea... Fresh blueberries, black garlic, sounds like a perfect combination for a sauce!


Here is the really easy recipe that takes little time and effort. The ratios can be adjusted to personal taste of course.




Fire & Water Cooking Blueberry & Black Garlic BBQ Sauce

2 tsp - oil

4 cups - fresh or frozen blueberries

1/8 cup - finely chopped onion

1/2 cup - brown sugar

1 tsp - granulated garlic

2 tsp - black garlic (powdered preferred)

1 tsp - cumin

1 tsp - kosher salt

1 tsp - black pepper

1 tsp - ground mustard powder

1 tbs - chili powder (to taste, can also use chipotle or any other ground pepper)

1/2 tsp - ginger

1/2 tsp - lemon peal

1/2 tsp - lime peal

1/4 cup - ketchup

1/4 cup - balsamic vinegar

1/8 cup - apple cider vinegar

1/2 cup - water


heat the oil in a 2 quart sauce pan on medium high and soften the onions. add the wet ingredients including the blueberries, then add the dry ingredients and mix well. let the mixture come to a low boil and then reduce to medium low heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes. check to see if the berries have softened, if not allow to simmer another 5 minutes. reduce heat and use a stick blender or food processor to pulverize the berries. remove from heat once the sauce has reduced to your desired consistency.


Enjoy it on anything!
